Are you a frequent migraine sufferer?

If you suffer from frequent migraines, days without headaches are likely few and far between. Frequent migraine sufferers typically experience 15+ headaches per month over the course of three months. For frequent migraine sufferers, eight or more of these headaches are accompanied by nausea, vomiting, phonophobia, and/or photophobia. If this sounds familiar, you may also suffer from frequent migraines.

Many medical experts who specialize in treating migraines suggest there is no exact answer to what causes a migraine. Some factors that may trigger migraines are stress, depression, excitement, irregular sleeping habits, changes in routine, neck and shoulder tension, MSG, red wine, overexertion inactivity, and weather disturbances.

Migraines are commonly treated using natural methods, over-the-counter medication, and physician-prescribed medication. However, there is another option. Botox for migraines is a new and cost-effective treatment option that is quickly gaining traction among frequent migraine sufferers.

Botox works by paralyzing the muscle activity around the injected area, blocking chemical signals from nerves that are otherwise sensitive to pain. Each set of injections are administered into seven major muscle areas of the head and neck through 31 injections. The needles used for Botox injections are typically very small, so pain is minimal. Physicians recommend booking follow-up treatments every 12 weeks to prevent migraine symptoms from reappearing.

Some patients experience relief as little as four weeks following their first Botox treatment; however, it can take up to three treatments for noticeable migraine relief.

The cost of Botox is roughly $795.00 for each treatment (without private insurance coverage). With insurance, the out-of-pocket cost can be reduced by 80% – 100%.

At Imagine Health Centres, our specialized physicians offer Botox as a practical and economical treatment option for sufferers of frequent migraines. The process begins with a consultation with one of our skilled physicians, during which patients are asked to complete a “Chronic Migraine” screening tool. This tool aids the physician’s decision as to whether you are a candidate for Botox treatment.
