Chronic Pain
Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is typically described as pain lasting longer than three months. It can occur anywhere in the body and may vary from mild to excruciating. There are various forms of treatment for chronic pain, and a number of tools and resources are available for health care providers working with clients affected by chronic pain.
Our physicians can prescribe medications such as muscle relaxants, anti-anxiety drugs, NSAIDs, or a short course of painkillers to help combat chronic pain.
Trigger point injections are an option for chronic pain sufferers who have had little success with prescription medications. Trigger point injections are used to treat muscle pain in the arms, legs, lower back, and neck. This approach can also be used to treat fibromyalgia, tension headaches, and myofascial pain syndrome when other treatments have failed.
Physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy also help to relieve pain using special techniques. Visit our Allied Health (tentative page name) page for more information.
Patients who have tried several types of therapy and/or medications with no success may wish to be assessed for medical cannabis eligibility. Some chronic pain patients have been able to regain their quality of life by incorporating medical cannabis into their pain management treatment plan after other therapies have been ineffective. Imagine Health Centres features physicians and educators who are happy to educate patients on the benefits of medical cannabis as well as answer any cannabis-related questions. Ask your family doctor for a referral for a free medical cannabis consultation. Click <<here>> for our Physician Referral Form.
